IC 1302 Advanced Machining & Reverse Engineering
Development trends in advanced machining. Applications and limitations of advanced machine tools. Factors affecting the precision of machining processes and cost considerations. Use of AMT equipment including CNC-EDM, wire-cut EDM, CNC grinding and laser material processing. Precision measurement using Co-ordinate Measuring Machine and laser interferometer. Appreciation of Reverse Engineering and its application in Product development Introduction of RE workflow, 3D scanning facilitates and surface reconstruction software, its merits and limitation in RE Process.

IC 1303 Quality Control & Inspection
Introduction to QC and Inspection. Uses and applications of measuring equipment for linear, angular, profile, roundness, surface finish measurement. General appearance inspection & measurement, and suitability for use. Precision measurement using CMMs and Optical Profile Projectors. Use of 3D scanner as an alternative means for intricate part measuring and rapid inspection. Statistical Process Control (SPC) and process capability analysis; and SPC software applications. Sampling techniques and procedures. Inspection of electroplated part, plastic products and welded joints.

 

IC 1306 Precision Machining
Introduction to precision tooling-types, applications and implications. Mould and die making - methodologies and process selection. Use of advanced machine tools for mould and die making including CNC EDM, wire-cut EDM, CNC profile grinding, jig boring and jig grinding. Control of mould and die quality. Jigs and fixtures - basic concepts and applications. Precision machining processes; factors affecting accuracy of processes; universal grinding, CNC profile grinding, CNC EDM and wirecut machines; precision measurement using coordinate measuring machines; measurement of forms, dimensions and surface finish. Laser interferometer and its application in machine tool calibrations.

IC 1307 Advanced Machining & QC Inspection
Advanced Machining: introduction to tool and die making processes. Use and application of AMT equipment - Electrical Discharge Machining, Wire-cutting, CNC Grinding, and Laser Cutting/welding. QC Inspection: statistical process control (SPC) and sampling techniques. Inspection of dimensions and surface finish. Precision measurement using CMMs and Optical Profile Projectors. Laser interferometer and its application in machine tool calibrations.


IC 1308 Quality Control & Precision Measurement
Introduction to QC & Quality Systems. Sampling techniques & procedures. Statistical process control (SPC) and process capability analysis and various SPC software applications. Inspection of dimensions, forms, surface finish, profile & angular measurements. Measurement using optical measuring devices, surface roughness tester, roundness tester, and CMMs. Laser interferometer and its application in machine tool calibrations. Use of 3D scanner as an alternative means for intricate part measuring and rapid inspection.General considerations of errors in measurement. Maintenance and use of equipment.

IC 1309 Reverse Engineering
Appreciation of Reverse Engineering technology and its application in Product development including workflow of RE, introduction of 3D scanning facilitates and surface reconstruction software, its merits and limitation in RE Process. Type of 3D scanning facilitates considerations. Illustrates operation procedures of 3D Data Processing and surface reconstruction (registration, merging, cleaning and triangulation) and integrated with CAD/CAM.

 

IC1311 Digitization and 3D modelling in Building Service
Modules are designed to give the trainee some practical hands-on experience in 3d digitization and model for those who are studying in Building Services, Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline.
Trainees will be introduced to with an overview of basic concepts and principles of 3d digitization and modeling. Primary emphasis is on a practical approach to understanding the digitizing hardware and image processing methodologies. Image matching is to be discussed. The training on close range photogrammetric measurement does not only cover the use of digitizing hardware and 3D modelling technique, but further extends to the application of photogrammetric measurement techniques for different building service content.
